Leipzig to Play Host to EuroMedtech™ 2010

International medical technology partnering conference to facilitate new industry collaborations

Leipzig to Play Host to EuroMedtech™ 2010

Zurich, Switzerland; Leipzig, Germany, November 30, 2009: EBD Group today announced that the 2nd annual EuroMedtech™ partnering conference will be held at The Westin hotel in Leipzig, Germany, on June 1–2, 2010. EuroMedtech provides unparalleled opportunities for collaboration among medtech decision makers and investors. EuroMedtech attracts companies from all parts of the advanced medical technology industry, including diagnostics, imaging, orthopedics, cardiovascular, biomaterials and eHealth technologies.

EuroMedtech 2010 will again attract decision makers from all sectors of the fast growing and highly innovative medical technology sector. Last year’s edition saw over 250 delegates from 191 companies engage in 652 one-to-one partnering meetings to discuss financing, licensing opportunities or collaborations for advancing product development and distribution to international markets.

“I am delighted that EBD Group recognizes the significant potential of the life science industry of Saxony, and is bringing the leading global medtech companies to this region,” said Martin Pfister, director of Regional Host Biosaxony. “EuroMedtech will stimulate the innovative community of Saxony and help establish links with our neighboring Eastern European partners by including a presentation track featuring some of their most innovative small companies.”

He added that “Biosaxony is proud to host EuroMedtech, and showcase Leipzig as the leading choice for worldwide medtech leaders seeking to invest and establish partnerships." Of note, EuroMedtech 2010 expects to see another large turnout by venture capitalists and other investment firms. Last year’s event included Abingworth, Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners, Earlybird Venture Capital, Sofinnova, NIBC Capital Partners/B.V., Gilde Healthcare Partners, Aescap and Vesalius BioCapital.

“EuroMedtech provided an opportunity for Healionics to share our novel biomaterial scaffold technology to European medtech players for the first time. We engaged with a select group of venture capital and R&D partners and some of those have blossomed into fruitful relationships today” said Michel Alvarez, CEO, Healionics Corporation.

Robert Keefer, Managing Director of TCG added “We were very pleased with the quality and the quantity of partnering meetings. We had fifteen meetings in two days with highly qualified companies that we could not have known had we not been at EuroMedtech. Importantly, three of those companies engaged us in ongoing discussions and negotiations for how we will work together to bring their products into new markets. These kinds of opportunities simply would not have developed without the initial in-depth discussions made possible by the personal one-to-one partnering meetings we had with the CEO's of those companies. You can plan on us being at future EuroMedtech meetings!”

The event features EBD Group’s sophisticated, web-based partnering system, partneringONE®, the industry’s leading conference networking solution that enables delegates to efficiently mine a large pool of potential partners and pre-arrange private one-to-one meetings.

Attending companies range from large multinational medtech companies to emerging start-ups, as well as firms from the financial and service sectors. EuroMedtech also features 15-minute presentations by innovative medical technology companies, insightful panel discussions on industry developments and trends, and a lively exhibition.
